Het Haaksbergerveen
Het Haaksbergerveen, ruim 600 hectare groot, is een van de mooiste hoogveengebieden van Nederland. Hoogveen is een zeldzame grondsoort, die maar op enkele plaatsen in ons land voorkomt. Dit aantrekkelijke gebied ligt aan de zuidkant van Haaksbergen tegen de Duitse grens aan.

Haarmühle
De Haarmühle is een watermolen aan de Alstätter Aa die aan de Nederlandse kant verder stroomt als Buurserbeek (verderop Schipbeek). In 1188 stond hier al een Haremole. De huidige molen is gebouwd in 1619. Sinds begin twintigste eeuw wordt de Haarmühle gepacht door de familie Brüggemann.

Via dit laantje over de ‘kloppendiek’ bereikten in de tijd rond de Tachtigjarige Oorlog de rooms-katholieke gelovigen de kerk in het Zwillbrocker Venn. Het belijden van het Rooms-Katholieke geloof was tientallen jaren lang verboden in de protestantse Nederlanden. “Kloppen” in de naam verwijst naar
het gebruik van destijds. Door te kloppen op de deur waarschuwde men elkaar dat het tijd was om naar de mis te gaan. Dat waarschuwen gebeurde vaak door alleenstaande oudere vrouwen, die ‘klopjes’ werden genoemd.
